GlobaLinks Learning Abroad employees are part of a Running To Be The Change group, which is serving as inspiration for the Aug. 5, 2009, Globe Trot 5K Fundraiser for the Foundation for Asia Pacific Education.

GlobaLinks Learning Abroad is inviting the community to join it in a “Globe Trot” Wednesday, Aug. 5, to raise money to support scholarships for students who want to gain global experience by studying abroad in the Asia-Pacific region.

All proceeds from the 5K run/walk in Westminster, Colo., will go to support the Foundation for Asia Pacific Education, a non-profit fundraising organization addressing the void in funding and support for North American undergraduates seeking cultural and academic experiences in Asia Pacific.

Many students view their university years as the perfect time to study abroad and push themselves out of their comfort zones by venturing into the world to learn about other people and cultures.

But for many students, especially during these tough economic times of decreasing budgets and rising tuition, studying abroad is financially beyond their reach.

Deborah Morrison is one of many running enthusiasts on the GlobaLinks Learning Abroad staff.

The Denver-based Foundation for Asia Pacific Education prioritizes students from underrepresented populations in international education. These include, but are not limited to, students from low-income families, ethnic backgrounds, certain academic majors, the Rocky Mountain geographic region and first-generation college students.

Help GlobaLinks Learning Abroad and its AustraLearn / AsiaLearn / EuroLearn programs support scholarships for these students by slipping on your tennis shoes and joining in on the 5K “Globe Trot” and celebration following at Baker Street Pub & Grill in Westminster, Colo.
